The Tithe
Tithe
Tithing is not for religion but it's for a kingdom or a country. It's a tax. Tithe is a ten percent tax paid to the government of heaven on every service and benefit provided to citizens. No tax for non-citizens. Jesus came to announce a heavenly Kingdom, means a citizenship. This is a kingdom where only righteous people live.
God's management training program for mankind
Why God created tithing? tithing has nothing to do with giving God money, God doesn't need nothing from us, we couldn't even give God nothing, everything on the earth already belongs to God, he doesn't need nothing from us, so when God set something up is not because he needs it, but we need it. Tithing and offerings are God's management training program for mankind, why this is so important? God doesn't need a penny from us and yet he tells us 10% of everything is mine, we only think of money and that's our problem, if we get 10 pairs shoes, one of them aren't ours, if we get 10 dresses, one of them aren't ours, if we bought 10 oranges, one of them is not ours, we got 24 hours in a day, 2 hours and 40 minutes don't belong to us, we say that we got no time to pray, what are we talking about, we've got 2 hours and 40 minutes that don't belong to us, we're thieves, every day when we don't use all 2 hours or 40 minutes for God's purposes, we are tired thieves sleeping in God's time, we spend 2 hours 4 hours 8 hours watching cable television and cell phone and don't give God in 2 hours and 40 minutes that belong to him, even 10% we can't manage. We are always trying to get money, getting money is not our problem, management is our problem, any time of day God could command us to give the dress away in our closet. So tithing and offering is not about money, it's about management, can we consistently put aside 10% of everything for God's purposes, that's tithing.
100% of How much does God own everything belongs to God? When God blesses you with a paycheck of a thousand dollars how much of that belongs to God? 100%. now how much did God say to put aside for his work? ten percent. How much left? ninety percent. Which one those belong to God? 100%. okay all right so then why would God if he owns all 1,000 want you to put side ten percent? why because it's not about the money it's about your ability to put it aside, your will your control, your discipline to put it aside, he's after your discipline, if you can manage the 10 percent properly then he is happy to trust you with the 90% that's left but because you've been unfaithful in the 10% you keep losing then 90 percent so you end up with no percent, that's why you're broke.
Characteristics of a manager
so, you tell God that you can't tithe because this week things tough, and you are in real crisis right now, and God got to figure this out, these things are very tough, bla bla bla...but God says, what are you talking about? your salvation is in the tithe. This is what tithing does to you, each one of these following words is management
- Accountability: if you keep paying your tithes you're giving your offering, you automatically first become accountable.
- Discipline: for you to put that aside every single time it takes control.
- Honesty: for you to be a tither that means no one's watching except God and he knows if you paying it or not, you can lie to everybody else but God knows if you paying 10%, that means it makes you honest, managers must be honest.
- Diligence: it means that you work at it, constantly to make sure you don't steal that 10%, that's what managers supposed to do
- Faithfulness: oh my god, that's what's wrong with managers, they are unfaithful and it takes faithfulness to tithe.
- Trustworthiness: for you to manage your tithe, God got to trust you every time
These are the characteristics of a manager, they are accountable and disciplined, they are honest, they are diligent, they are faithful, they are trustworthy.
top-class management lesson
Jesus one day showed to his disciples the top-class management lesson, one day he had five thousand people plus women and children in a field and they were all hungry, he is about to distribute some resources to them, I want you to watch him at work, Matthew 6 verse 40 it says, so they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties that's administration or organization. Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, that's the resources looking up to the one who owns them, he thanked him for letting him use them, that's appreciation that means they don't belong to you, someone else's property, he broke it then he gave them to his disciples and they gave to the people, that's delegation, he also divided the two fish among them all and they all ate and was satisfied, that's customer service, give God a thanks for the customer service, all were satisfied now, watch his management kick in, it says and he told the disciples to pick up every crumb, ladies and gentlemen, I want you to imagine this, twelve thousand people in an open field, breaking bread and pieces of fish, now how in the world you can find pieces of bread crumbs and this is a fish bone and stuff in the grass, he says pick up every crumb, in the book of Matthew that actually says, he said to them pick up every crumb and bring it to me, I don't want to waste nothing, this world is built on a culture of a culture of waste and it is in the church, who go direct to the buffets after the service, and what do you do at that buffet, you know the plate is too small for what you want to do, you pile it up sit at the table and half is left in the plates, you're a bad manager and God takes notes, this fellow wasted food that's not funny, he made them pick up every crumbs, it was not the crumbs that were important, it was the lesson he was teaching, you don't waste the crumb.
